The Salzburg Citizenship Department will soon transition to a new administrative hub, temporarily impacting public access. This vital provincial office is relocating to the new Landesdienstleistungszentrum, near Salzburg’s main railway station.
Public services will face restrictions from Wednesday, December 2nd, until Tuesday, December 8th. During this period, the department will only be reachable by telephone. Consequently, personal appointments will not be possible.
The new address for the department is Landesdienstleistungszentrum, Kaiserschützenstraße 5, 5020 Salzburg. This location officially becomes effective from December 9th. Anyone sending documents via post during the move should use this new address.
Applicants must understand specific procedures during the relocation. Personal visits always require a pre-arranged appointment. Therefore, individuals should not arrive at either the old or new locations without prior scheduling.
For those with an ongoing citizenship case, additional documents can be submitted by post or email. However, new applications for Austrian citizenship demand an in-person submission. These still require an appointment beforehand.
Prospective applicants should first complete Salzburg’s online pre-application form. The authority then provides necessary information about required documents. This initial step remains unchanged.
The provincial citizenship department serves residents of Salzburg city and the districts of Salzburg-Umgebung, Hallein, Tamsweg, and Zell am See. By contrast, individuals residing in St Johann im Pongau should contact their local Bezirkshauptmannschaft.
This move is part of a larger consolidation effort. The new Landesdienstleistungszentrum will unite approximately 1,400 provincial employees from 25 different sites. While most departments will move in stages during January 2027, the Salzburg Citizenship Department is among the earlier relocations, making its shift this December.
